The holiday season brings perfect times to cozy up and watch holiday movies. There are many classic, favorite holiday movies out there. Here are the top ten favorite holiday movies amongst young adults. These are arranged in no specific order. 

 

Starting off the list is How The Grinch Stole Christmas. This classic holiday movie was directed by Ron Howard and was released on November 8, 2000. How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a live-action movie based on the book with the same name by Dr. Seuss. This movie starts in the town of Whoville, where all the citizens love Christmas. On the outskirts of town lives the Grinch, who has a plan to ruin Christmas for all, only to have a change of heart by the influence of a young girl. This movie stars Jim Carey, Taylor Momson, and many more. 

 

Home Alone was directed by Chris Columbus and was released in 1990. Home Alone is about a young boy who is faced with protecting his house from burglars because he got accidentally left behind on a family vacation. Home Alone stars Macaulay Culkin, Joe Peski, and Daniel Stern.

 

Next on the list is Elf, which John Favreau directed. It was released on November 7, 2003. Raised as an elf, Buddy, the human travels from the North Pole to New York City looking for his dad, who needs Christmas spirit. Elf stars Will Ferrell, James Caan, and Zooey Deschanel

 

Next up is Die Hard. Die Hard is an American action film that was released in 1988. During this film, a New York City police officer attempts to save his wife and many others that have been taken hostage at a Christmas party. As the movie goes on, it’s well known that this officer has to take matters into his own hands. Die Hard was directed by John McTiernan and starred Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman, and Bonnie Bedelia.

 

Next on the list is The Grinch. This film has recently been released and has increased its popularity. The Grinch was released in 2018 with the same plotline as the 2000 version of the movie. Yarrow Cheney and Scot Mosier directed The Grinch, and the film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Cameron Seely, and Pharell Williams.

 

Next is Holidate. Holidate was released on October 28, 2020, and was directed by John Whitesell. Two strangers who are tired of being single during the holidays make a pact to be each other’s platonic plus ones to holiday events but fall in love along the way. Holidate starred Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, and Kristen Chenoweth.

 

Next up is Nightmare Before Christmas, also known as Tim Burtons Nightmare before Christmas was released on October 29,  1993, and was written by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick. Jack skeleton, the pumpkin king, finds Christmas town and wants to bring it back to recreate Christmas but causes confusion. Nightmare Before Christmas stars Danny Elfman, Chris Saradon, and Catherine O’Hara.

 A Charlie Brown Christmas released December 9, 1965, was written by Charles M. Schulz and directed by Bill Melendez. Disappointed by the materialistic aspect of Christmas, Charlie Brown Searches for a deeper meaning to Christmas. A Charlie Brown Christmas stars Ann Altieri, Chris Doran, and Sally Dryer.

 

Next is Christmas Vacation or known as National Lampoons. Christmas Vacation was released December 1st, 1989, directed by Jeremiah S. Chechik. The Griswold family’s plans for a Christmas Vacation turn into a huge disaster. Christmas Vacation Stars Chevy Chase, Beverly D’Angelo, and Juliette Lewis. 

 

Last up is Polar Express released November 10th, 2004. Polar Express was directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Chris van Allsburg, Robert Zemeckis, and William Broyles Jr. On Christmas eve, a young boy set out on a magical journey to the North pole on a magical train. Along the way, he learns Bravery, friendship, and the spirit of Christmas.
