Barlow Volleyball faces off against Sandy

Phoebe Busiek, Staff Writer

This fall season is filled with an exciting future for Barlow’s sports teams. Water polo had a very successful season last year with a state championship win for the girls, and the boys team got 3rd place. This year, the boys don’t have any seniors for the varsity water polo team. Hayden Markell, team captain, says that the team has a goal of beating the defending state champions. The girls are predicted to win the state this year again as well “but it will take all of everyone’s effort to get there.” Tess Henke would also like to perfect the game more. All of the teams encourage students to watch their games this year.

Cross country has a great team this season and are excited to meet new people according to the team captains Alyssa Stumbo, Izabella Garcia, and Braydon Lee. On Wednesday, the Bruins had their only home meet in which our top runners for both boys and girls got 1st place for the Varsity and the J.V. race.

“I want us to make a deep playoff run this year,” states captain of the football team, Dylan Howell. They also want to make the first team conference this year and next. The football team has had a pretty good season this year so far with two big wins vs Gresham and Clackamas. “When we do that we will let the cards fall where they go.”

This year the volleyball team has had an overall 5-3 season so far. They have a goal to make it to the playoffs this year because they didn’t last year. Lilly Knight said, “Winning home games brings me so much joy.”  They are excited about having a non-COVID year and a normal student section. Alexa Bell is excited about the team this year and is really confident in their ability.

Evan Scholl would like the boys soccer team to start playing more like a team rather than just eleven people. In order for them to go to the playoffs, they just have to do their best and win as many games as they can. The girls soccer team is currently ranked first in the conference and 16th in state. They have had a total of five wins, two losses and one tie.

This year is going to be a very thrilling year for the Bruins. Make sure to watch some of the games this year to show some Bruin pride.
