Looking around the parking lot this year, you may have noticed an uprising in the amount of trash scattered throughout. You can’t park your car or walk into the school without encountering at least two chip bags, a Chick-fil-A bag, and several drink cups ranging from Dutch Bros to Our Coffee House.
Seniors Jett Fay, Hayden Delacruz, and Joel Moffat decided that they should schedule a student-led cleanup to remedy this issue. They made social media posts to get people in on the cleanup and told people to come to the school on Sunday, March 17th. Since this also coincided with Saint Patrick’s Day, they decided to tell people to wear green. Bags, gloves, trash pickers, and water were provided for all volunteers.
The response from students was overwhelming. Around 40 students showed up at 12:00 on Sunday and spent three hours making Barlow’s parking lot look as good as new.
Remember that when you dump something out of your car or leave something on the steps to the school, someone is going to have to pick it up after you. Plastic and paper don’t just disintegrate, and it wouldn’t be fair to the janitors to pick up after your mess. Trash cans are located inside of the school, and since you’re headed in there anyway, you might as well take your trash in with you. By working together, we can ensure that Barlow remains a clean place for everyone. Go Bruins!
