What is DECA?

The Distributive Education Clubs of America, or DECA, is a club you can join after taking Intro to Business and Marketing 1-2, or Hospitality and Tourism with an invite from Ms. Lamoureux, Barlow’s marketing teacher. DECA goes to competitions and competes against other DECA clubs from around the country. You are given a case study to practice and prepare for the judges. Then you use your creativity to solve the case studies you are given. DECA has some fun opportunities like going to a Portland Trail Blazers game and having a business session to see how they market the Blazers. There is also a State Career Development Conference (SCDC) that DECA attends which is a state-wide competition, and then ICDC which is the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida this year. At these competitions, you meet with judges, present your case, and compete to win! DECA is always looking for members so go see Lamoureux in 115 and…JOIN DECA!!!

Amber Saephan’s favorite part of
DECA is “Going to
competitions and meeting
new people!” she also
mentioned If you make it to ICDC you
go to orlando florida which
is super exciting!
Sofia Potts says, “I love going to SCDC which
is the state conference so we
get to go to the Holliday inn
out in Portland. We stay there
for a weekend and it’s really
fun because it’s a lot of
personal bonding.”
“My favorite part is the
feeling after you compete.
You’re so nervous to compete
and as soon as your done
you can go hangout with
your friends in the hotel
room or you can walk
down to target,” Jaidyn
Worley said when I asked
what her favorite part of
DECA was.
“My favorite part of DECA is
probably going to State.
I’ve been there once and
it’s really fun,” Cooper Batsch
said.
