Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida on the night of Oct. 9 as a Category 3 storm and killed 24 people. With a month left in the hurricane season, Milton’s devastation is not the last we’ll see. Hurricane Milton has caused a lot of destruction to Florida and other places it hit. The main damage that Milton has caused is the destruction of many buildings and houses, flooding in different parts of the state, and destruction of the land. Some of the hardest hit areas included Sarasota, Fort Myers, St. Petersburg, St. Lucie, and other cities on the Gulf Coast.
Storm surge warnings were in effect along Florida’s east coast up to Georgia’s Altamaha Sound Bay. Milton has left many without homes as it has ripped up houses, knocked over signs and trees, and caused flooding in parts of the state. With this and more being blown around in the wind and rain, there are mass amounts of debris everywhere. After Hurricane Milton tore across the central part of Florida, more than 2 million people were leftwithout power.
Milton churned out at least 41 tornadoes, and the count’s not over yet. With a month left in the hurricane season, we are expected to have many more. Another Hurricane that’s been named Hurricane Oscar hit eastern Cuba on October 22nd. Not only has Hurricane Milton torn through Florida, but it has also caused many big businesses like Disney World to close. Disney World’s closure and the hurricane have affected tourism in Florida, which is costing them to lose a lot of money. The loss of tourism revenue will hurt Florida’s economy and therefore make it more difficult to rebuild the destroyed infrastructure.
According to the Florida disaster page, “A developing storm in the Gulf of Mexico promises to bring heavy, potentially flooding rain to Florida starting Sunday and lasting into much of next week.” Due to this news and Hurricane Milton many Florida residents have fled the state to escape this mess that Hurricane Milton has caused and more will cause.
Hurricane Milton has caused a lot of tragedy for Florida residents, forcing them out of their homes, destroying their neighborhoods and schools, killing many people, causing people to go missing, and much more. This year’s hurricane season has been deadly and destructive. Florida has more to come and more to prepare for.
