Flight Club, led by Mr. Bailey, is for anyone who wants to become a pilot. Although this club is mostly for fun, it teaches the fundamentals of everything you need to know to become a private pilot by studying the airmen’s knowledge, how to do a full exterior check, and much more. The club meets at 2:45 on Wednesdays and Thursdays in room 513, and they encourage everyone to come check it out.
By joining Flight Club, you have the opportunity to go on many field trips. They usually occur once a month, traveling to different airports and airplane museums. In November, they plan to have guest speakers and potentially another field trip to the Troutdale Airport. Recently, many have been excited about, Flight Club allowing students to get their drone licenses. Although this isn’t something most people focus on when they want to become a pilot, it is a great opportunity to bring students partway. Getting a drone license allows you to legally fly drones for commercial use and be able to make money flying them as a profession. Getting this license will prepare you and bring you to that halfway point to becoming a pilot. Although getting your drown and pilot’s licenses are different, they have two common grounds. They both follow the same rules, and you’ll learn about the physics of air space.
Students that are currently a part of Flight Club enjoy it for a variety of reasons. Levi Ruiz says learning about tools is one of the best parts of the club. Another flight club member, Eli Burgeman, said that the flight simulator was what he enjoyed most about the club.
Students in Flight Club view it as an opportunity to get started on their future goals as a pilot. Tanner Lively said that they wanted to be a FedEx Pilot so this club is beneficial for their career plans. Another member of Flight Club, Natalie Kuhr, says she wants to be a UPS pilot for their future career.
Mr. Bailey has his pilot license. His advice to young aspiring pilots who want to get their pilot’s license is to start early and figure out payment methods. There are many grants and scholarships you can apply for to pay these bills, you just have to know where to look. Another piece of advice is to dedicate a large portion of your time like a whole summer or a couple months, it’ll help you stay ready and on schedule.
Flight Club is an amazing opportunity to get a head start and prepare for any future as a pilot. Flight Club only meets two days a week in room 513. This can be the jump start you need towards your pilot dreams. Join Flight Club Today!
