A survey was taken during all advisory classes on December 2 asking, “What trends, songs, etc. should be left behind in 2024?” There were so many responses ranging from things like “skibidi toilet” to “showering.” Although there were many great answers, not all could be included, so here are the top 10 best responses.
Many students said “brain rot” should be left behind in 2024. If you aren’t familiar with it already, brain rot is a phrase used to describe the way people talk when they say things like skibidi, sigma, rizz, and other terms or phrases originating from internet slang. This kind of language started being used in early 2024 and is surprisingly still being used now. A total of 25 students agreed that brain rot needs to go.
The second best answer was “All I Want for Christmas” by Mariah Carey. Only a couple of people said that this song should be left behind but it was a very surprising answer. Who doesn’t like Mariah Carey?
The third best response was from someone who said “showering.” This is definitely one that should not be left behind. Whoever said this, I really hope you were joking. I thought this one was important to include so that everyone knows that showering is something we 100% should take with us into 2025.
The fourth best response was “smoking.” This answer was a very reasonable answer because now, you can barely even walk into a bathroom because kids are always huddled on the floors, in the stalls, or even by the sinks smoking. This one is a good choice many other people can get behind leaving in 2024.
The fifth best answer was “men.” This one is a funny and great choice. Men can be a lot to handle, but unfortunately, it’s safe to assume this one will not be left behind in 2024.
The sixth best answer was “being rude for quite literally no reason.” This one is true as people need to learn how to be nice. So many people can be mean to you for no reason and it is very common that you will interact with people like this almost every day. This is another one that will most definitely come with us into the new year.
The seventh best answer was “Ice Spice.” Ice Spice is a rapper and she was pretty popular at the beginning of 2024 but hasn’t been talked about for a while. It’s likely that when 2025 rolls around, not many people will be talking about her at all so this person will probably get what they asked for.
The eighth best answer was “The new grinch.” This answer is sad. The new grinch is a very popular Christmas movie and is a favorite of many. I will keep watching this movie every year so that it does not get left behind.
The ninth best response was “the renegade.” The renegade is a dance that many people did a few years ago. This response is confusing because the renegade is already long gone.
The last and final best answer was “the long eyebrows and bad motherhood.” Long eyebrows aren’t a trend, so this response most likely wants shorter eyebrows to become a trend. Bad motherhood is definitely one that we can leave in 2024 because it is very sad to see mothers treating their kids badly and with no care or love.
As 2025 is coming quickly, everyone has opinions on what should not follow into the new year. This survey was a fun way to see Barlow students’ opinions on 2024. As you make your new year’s resolutions, think about what you want to leave behind.
