Tom Holland and Zendaya, co-stars of the Spider-Man trilogy, are engaged after four years of dating. On Sunday, January 5, Zendaya shocked the world when she walked onto the Golden Globes red carpet sporting her new engagement ring, a 5.02-carat east-west set cushion-cut diamond, and a lowercase “t” tattooed on her ribcage. The actor and actress have kept their relationship private since they started dating, but after the confirmed engagement, they are all Hollywood can talk about.
Zendaya and Holland, both 28, met in June 2016, on the set of their first movie together, Spiderman: Homecoming. Holland played Peter Parker, a teenager who became a superhero, which is now one of his most famous career roles. Zendaya played Michelle “MJ” Jones, Peter’s love interest. Dating rumors soon started after the two began working together, though at the time, Zendaya was in a relationship with her Euphoria co-star, Jacob Elordi. The couple later started officially dating, addressed the rumors, and confirmed their relationship in July 2021.
When Zendaya was first spotted with the ring, the public was still unsure if this meant the actors were officially engaged. But just five days after the Golden Globes, Tom Holland’s father, Dominic Holland, confirmed the engagement. In a post on Patreon, the comedian wrote, “Tom, as you may know by now, was very incredibly well prepared. He had purchased a ring. He had spoken with her father and gained permission to propose to his daughter.” He later added, “Tom had everything planned out… When, where, how, what to say, what to wear.” It was reported that Holland finally popped the question over the holiday, with Zendaya and her family.
Holland has been taking a break from screen acting since his role in Uncharted back in 2022. He had been performing Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet in London’s West End from May 13th to August 3, 2024, and didn’t attend this year’s Golden Globes. However, Zendaya was in attendance and was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical, or Comedy for her role in Luca Guadagnino’s sports drama Challengers, released in April 2024. Although Challengers did very well in theaters, the award for Best Actress was eventually awarded to Demi Moore for her role in The Substance.
Regarding plans for the wedding, the couple had said they weren’t rushing to plan their wedding, as they are both finishing projects. People magazine says, “They have already gone back and forth on whether to have a destination wedding in Italy — they both love that idea — or at a lavish private estate in L.A. overlooking the ocean.” Everyone is now so excited to see what the future holds for the couple’s marriage and projects together.
Some upcoming movies that feature both Holland and Zendaya include Spiderman 4 and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, both set to release in 2026.
