The Grammy Awards have been the music industry’s most anticipated night of the year since 1959. At the 61st annual Grammys, Billie Eilish became the youngest artist to win Album Of The Year for her freshman album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? at just 18 years old. By February 2, 2025, Eilish had won nine Grammys. Three years ago, at the 2022 Grammy Awards, Eilish was nominated for seven Grammys for her second album, Happier Than Ever. She went home with no wins that year, so we all expected a different outcome for 2025.

Eilish had a fantastic year when it came to her music career, debuting her third album, Hit Me Hard And Soft, and announcing her world tour. Wrapping up the year, Eilish was awarded Apple Music’s 2024 Artist of the Year. She reached 100 million monthly Spotify listeners, and her newest hit single, “Birds of a Feather,” was Spotify’s Most Streamed Song of the Year. Arriving at the 2025 Grammys, Eilish had a total of seven nominations for her new album Hit Me Hard And Soft, including Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record Of The Year for “Birds of a Feather,” Song Of The Year for “Birds of a Feather,” Best Pop Solo for “Birds of a Feather,” Best Pop Duo Performance for “Guess” by Charli XCX feat. Billie Eilish, and Best Dance Pop Recording for “L’amour De Ma Vie [Over Now Extended Cut].”

Everybody knows Beyoncé and her impact on the music industry from “Who Run The World (Girls),” to “Dance For You.” Her most recent album, Cowboy Carter, was the first “country album” she ever released. She started the Grammy night by winning Best Country Album, beating many real country artists. You may have heard “Texas Hold’em” on the radio, but Beyoncé’s numbers came nowhere close to Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft. Comparing the two lead singles, “Birds Of A Feather” by Billie Eilish comes out at over 2 billion streams on Spotify alone, over triple the amount of streams “Texas Hold’em” by Beyoncé has accumulated. Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell are the only two writers on the album Hit Me Hard And Soft. At the same time, Beyoncé gave credit to over 70 writers on Cowboy Carter. Beyoncé won Album Of The Year, beating seven other artists, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Sabrina Carpenter, André 3000, and Jacob Collier.

But Beyoncé wasn’t the only artist who stole the much-deserved awards from Eilish. “Not Like Us” by Kendrick Lamar won both Song Of The Year and Record Of The Year, beating Eilish’s “Birds Of A Feather.” “Not Like Us” first became popular in May of 2024 during a feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar himself, but the song has barely half the total number of streams as “Birds Of A Feather.” “Birds Of A Feather” debuted the same month as “Not Like Us” and became the fastest song in history to surpass 2 billion streams on Spotify.

Billie Eilish has won over 200 awards for her music throughout the years, including Oscars, Golden Globes, MTV Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and Grammys, so it is no surprise to see her name on the nominees list. But to see that she has only won nine of the 32 Grammy Awards she has been nominated for in the past year is laughable. We should expect a difference in the 2026 Grammy night outcome for Eilish, and for her to get more of the recognition she deserves.
