Sofia Potts has been part of Barlow’s varsity dance team for all four years and recently committed to Linfield University to continue her academic and dance career. She wants to major in elementary education and minor in either French or business. Potts is looking into studying abroad in France and Jan-term, which is when you go to a different country to study for 2-4 weeks as your winter break.
Potts has been dancing since preschool and has had a strong love for the sport. To get recruited, the head coach needs to come to one of your competitions, or you have to send in videos of you dancing, so Potts sent in videos of her dancing in one of her competitions, and two halftime shows, and the coach emailed back to let her know she was on the varsity performance team.
The performance team is very similar to a varsity cheer team. They will perform halftime shows, be on the sidelines with the cheerleaders, go to away games, and take on a competition or two. One thing Potts said is, “Communication is key.” She reached out to the Linfield dance coach before one of the football games and met her and some of the girls on the team. Potts is looking forward to starting this new chapter in life after being at Barlow all four years. She is excited to try something new but still stay close to what she loves most: dance.
