Prom night is a pivotal event in teenagers’ lives that became a tradition in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It’s an experience like none other and is often cherished throughout a person’s life. The word prom derives from promenade, meaning an elegant or formal dance. Originally, prom was held as a debutant or in colleges and universities like Harvard, but the popularity spread to high schools around the 1920s. In 1936, prom was solidified in schools by becoming a junior-senior event. In the ‘80s, prom became a more elegant event, landing the special occasion in a special venue, like ballrooms or wedding venues.
Every year, the school’s prom theme changes, and this year, to tie in with spring and all its beauty, Barlow chose the theme Elegance in Bloom. Flowers and lights hung from the ceiling. Music floated through the extravagant room, luring people to the dance floor. The entrance featured a floral backdrop. Bows tied on the backs of chairs, and a photo station to commemorate the night. With shimmering dresses and sharp suits, elegance most certainly bloomed. The night glistened as friends created eternal lasting memories.
