Aiden Gardiner, a senior at Sam Barlow High School, has been awarded the presidential scholarship from Oregon State University (OSU). The presidential scholarship is a $10k scholarship that can be renewed for four years. The requirements for the presidential scholarship are a minimum 3.85 unweighted high school GPA, as well as a review of the student’s application with attention to their accomplishments, experiences, and activities.
Gardiner is part of multiple different school activities, such as Speech and Debate, Track, Swim, the National Honor Society, and Band. Gardiner is the president of Speech and Debate and does Policy debate and Impromptu speech primarily. In Track, he does the 800-meter and 1500-meter, and in Swim, he does the 100-yard, 500-yard freestyle, and 200-yard individual medley. In Band, Gardiner plays the Bass Clarinet. These activities, in combination with other things such as teaching swimming lessons and being a lifeguard during the summer at the Barlow and Gresham pools, have definitely helped his application be accepted by Oregon State University, where he will pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
