On Saturday, September 13th, at 7:00 pm, the Barlow Bruins had their annual homecoming dance to kick off the school year. The dance theme was Welcome Home Bruins, with a blue and gold theme.
Students said this year’s homecoming dance was definitely one to remember; it was filled with music, laughter, and school spirit! After a week of football games, assemblies, and spirit days, students gathered at the homecoming dance to celebrate the beginning of this school year.
For many students, the best part of the homecoming dance was just being with each other. Sophomore Adia Fancher said, “At first it was awkward, but once everyone got comfortable, it was so fun taking pictures!” Seniors went for the last time, savoring the moment with their fellow seniors, taking all the pictures they could. Teachers and chaperones noticed a larger turnout this year than in previous years due to the excitement of our new freshmen having their very first homecoming.
The homecoming dance wasn’t just about dancing or clothes; it was about being with friends, making memories, and celebrating the school year ahead.
Even if you don’t like school dances or big events, students said what they enjoyed most about homecoming was taking pictures and videos and being there with their friends.
Like many years before, this year’s dance was held in the courtyard. There was no food or drink, which was something that had been requested by students, that they would like to see next year! The courtyard was strung with glowing lights all around, and tables were moved toward the center of the dance floor to allow for easier sitting for students. There were also balloons stacked together to add more decorations and to make the area feel more like a dance floor.
Although homecoming has been talked about by our fellow Bruins in all different lights, the main way it was seen was that it’s not very good. Most students said there could be improvement in the placement, and they would much rather have it in the gym instead. Sophomore Brooke Campbell said, “I would love it if I could bring some of my friends from Sandy, like if they had a guest pass or something.” Students also said they would stay much longer if there was food and drink at the dance, so that they could stay longer without going hungry or feeling parched.
