In October 2023, the Oregon Schools Athletic Association (OSAA) voted to approve boy’s volleyball as an OSAA Sanctioned sport. In recent years, 30 schools have participated in the growing sport of boys’ volleyball. However, this year, 71 out of 76 schools opted to participate. Practices have officially started, and games are set to begin on April 10th. Barlow’s boy’s volleyball team is coached by Chris Holzbach and Steven Christiansen and is set to play their first game at Nelson at 6:15 on Wednesday, April 10th. Girls’ flag football is another new emerging sport across Oregon. It has also started with games. Barlow girls’ flag football played its first game at home on April 11th against Reynolds at seven, which they won 14-6. Bob Fay and Neil Collins coach the Barlow flag football team and also help coach the regular-season football team. The first game for men’s volleyball was a loss. However, the Bruins are ready to get back out on the court. The Bruins played at Nelson on April 10th. Barlow took a tough loss, with the final score being 2-3. The Bruins ended set one 25-12. In the second set, the Bruins were still up 25-12, by the third set, Nelson Hawks were up 23-25; set four was just as close at 23-25. Finally, the Hawks were up 13-15 for the winning set.
