On December 5th, 2014, the first Game Awards were held at AXIS, Las Vegas. Many games were announced for the next year, and many games gained nominations that turned into awards. On December 11, 2025, the Game Awards will be at Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.
Each video game has its pros and cons. Many people take it to heart when talking about their favorite game or a new game that they have played. Not everyone has the same opinion, but every game has its own style and meaning behind it. Either it is a story game, simulation, shooter, puzzle, strategy, or a sports game. Since 2014, a man named Geoff Keighley would create and continue this tradition to introduce new games that would come either the next year or the year after. Also, would make the categories that some games are nominated for. The first year that the gaming community would share its next year of games, and while giving out awards at the same time.
Many games have been nominated over all these years. Some in many peoples favor would win, and lose due to another game winning. “Power to connect and uplift,” stated Keighley. Each category has a reason for being there, like best music score would be the game’s soundtrack, best game direction is the overall game vision, and so many more. Every year, there are either 30-31 awards per show, many are the minor awards like best Esports team, best mobile game, and more.
“Every year this show reminds us why video games matter, they are worlds we share. Stories we live, communities we build, and experiences that we challenge, and inspire,” mentioned Keighley. 2025 would be a huge year for video games. A game that was released on April 24, 2025, is Clair Obscure: Expedition 33. This game would have a big impact on the gaming community, leading itself to earn twelve nominations, and earning eight awards right out of it. Baldur’s Gate 3 had the second highest number of awards having two awards this year, and Hades 2 coming in third having the best action awards! As the years go by we can always recognize how each game gets its own reward. Sure it may get many within different categories but you never know when it won’t earn its reward. Each year has its ups and downs, either people are happy with its outcome, or disappointed with it. Even if it isn’t what you want, be happy that you were there to see if you’re favorite game from that year
During the 2025 game awards, there were many hit games that were nominated. Even if the game you want to win is in their category, it is good to have respect for the game that wins! This marks the end of the 2025 Game Awards, and not till the end of 2026 during December we will wait and see which games deserve an award from this year.
