Ever since I was little, I knew how big a deal senior year of high school is, how it’s supposed to set up your future, and how it’s supposed to end high school. Senior year is a big milestone, so you want to make sure you do it right. High school is a rollercoaster of experiences, filled with ups and downs and moments that shape your future and who you become. For seniors, these moments have special importance in their lives.
As Sam Barlow’s senior year comes to an end, let’s look back at the moments that defined our seniors’ high school experiences.
Experiences that many say stand out to them include the final football game under the Friday night lights, everything for prom, including promposals, getting ready for prom, and going to prom, and graduation.
Also, many of the moments that define a senior’s year are the events specifically for the seniors, like senior sunrise, senior sunset, senior assassin, and senior night, for those seniors who participated in an extracurricular activity or sport.
Participating in activities and clubs during senior year is really important. Many seniors make friends within them and create their very best, lasting memories that define them. Olivia West, a senior in the class of 2026, said that one of the biggest moments that defined her senior year here at Barlow was finishing her high school soccer season and getting committed to play college soccer. Being in high school sports in your senior year can make it great. Another senior here at Barlow, Lilith Sotin, says that one of their best memories of senior year was prom. The venue was great, and the music and having fun with friends were a blast. So it’s important to get involved in stuff and show up to school events and activities, even if you don’t want to, because you never know how much fun you will have and what amazing memories you will make with people, especially in your senior year.
For many seniors, the major moments that define their senior year include school events, activities, lists of things open only to seniors, and the year that sets them up for their future. Sotin says that meeting the senior teachers helped her define her senior year, and they had a huge impact on her getting through it. For West, her senior year of varsity soccer set the rest of her year up by providing friendships that last.
Senior year is a time of events and emotions that define who we become. From big milestones like prom and graduation to the smaller moments with friends, these experiences leave a big impact on students. Senior year defines who you are and who you become, so make sure to get involved and show up for school events, activities, and hang out with friends.
