On January 11, 2026, the Golden Globes kicked off the 2026 award season, followed by the Grammys, Oscars, and Tonys. For 82 years, since 1944, the Golden Globes have recognized the acting profession for the hard work and artistry they create. This year, during the 2026 Golden Globes, Oenske Media Eldridge and the academy critics continued the tradition by acknowledging and awarding outstanding movies, actors, actresses, and directors of late 2024 through 2025.
Starting strong, Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet won Best Motion Picture Drama, Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another for Musical or Comedy, Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters for Animated, and Kleber Mendonca Filho’s Brazilian film, The Secret Agent, for Non-English Film. Jessie Buckley, who starred in Hamnet, and Wagner Moura, who starred in The Secret Agent, were both awarded for Best Performance in a Drama Motion Picture. Rose Byrne and Timothee Chalamet won the most deserved Best Performance in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Teyana Turner, One Battle After Another, and Stellan Skarsgard, Sentimental Value, were awarded for their outstanding supporting roles. Paul Thomas Anderson won both Best Director and Best Screenplay for his masterpiece, One Battle After Another, beating many other talented directors.
For the music aspect of all these amazing films, Ludwig Göransson won the Golden Globe for Best Original Score for Sinners, and “Golden” from K-Pop Demon Hunters won Best Original Song.
The actors and actresses from the television series also receive awards at the Golden Globes. The Pitt took the victory for Best Drama Television Series, and The Studio won for Best Musical or Comedy Television Series. Netflix had another win with Adolescence for Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television. Both Rhea Seehorn and Noah Wyle won Best Performance in a Drama Television Series, while Jean Smart and Seth Rogan won for Best Performance in a Musical or Comedy Television Series. Michelle Williams and Stephen Graham won Best Performance in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or a Motion Picture Made for Television. The Best Performance in a Supporting Role Golden Globes went to Erin Doherty and Owen Cooper, both for their work in Adolescence. For a fairly new award, Ricky Gervais: Mortality won for Best Performance in Stand-up Comedy on Television. And last but certainly not least, in a brand new award at the Golden Globes, Good Hang with Amy Poehler became the first ever winner of Best Podcast.
Another big achievement one can earn at the Golden Globes is the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the Carol Burnett Award, which went to Helen Mirren and Sarah Jessica Parker, respectively. These awards recognize lifetime achievement rather than work in a single project.
The Golden Globes are only the start of the award season, so these actors, actresses, and directors will be honored further for their outstanding work throughout the next few months and at other award shows. All nominees were at the Golden Globes for a reason, and all deserve the recognition, even if they didn’t win in their category. Next year’s Golden Globes will be around the same time, early January, and will honor movies released from late 2025 through most of 2026.
