As graduation gets closer, the AVID class of 2026 finds meaningful and creative ways to celebrate their final year. From class projects to end-of-year trips, the seniors are celebrating both their hard work and the memories they made in their four years of high school.
One of the major projects of the year is the “Cardboard Confessionals”, a creative activity where students paint and color on cardboards comparing their growth and reflection from freshman year to senior year. AVID members write what they used to be on the front side of the cardboard and how they are now on the back side of the board. This project allows the seniors to reflect on their growth over the years and recognize the hard work they put into achieving their goals. The project quickly became a way for students to open up and connect with their peers.
In addition to Cardboard Confessionals, the AVID class of 2026 is creating a class cookbook featuring recipes collaborated on by the students. Each senior is responsible for creating at least one recipe to add to the cookbook full of family traditions and memories. Many students say they are especially excited for this project because it represents their background and culture. The cookbook celebrates diversity and personality within the class. Recipes include Chocolate Chip Banana Bread, Brownies, and Sushi Bowl.
Senior night is also right around the corner. Senior night is when AVID families and friends gather to celebrate their hard-working seniors. During senior night, scholarships are announced and awarded, students receive their cords, and enjoy their last days with their peers with food and refreshments. But it doesn’t end there; the AVID class enjoys a competitive and calm night of bowling the night after. Students will have the opportunity to relax and spend their last days together. Proud AVID member Amber Saephan states, “This is an amazing way to conclude our AVID program.” Saephan says she is especially excited for bowling night and is looking forward to spending time with fellow classmates.
For senior Kelly Modesto, the AVID program is more than just an academic class. “AVID helped me become more confident,” she states. “AVID is where I met the most amazing people and helped me grow as a person.” Modesto is planning to study Psychology at Western Oregon University and thanks the AVID program for pushing her to pursue her passion.
Another senior, Valentina Rivas, states that, before AVID, she was scared to be herself. Ever since she joined the AVID program, she has grown more confident. “I realized that I should be doing what I love for myself and not for others.
As high school comes to an end, the AVID class of 2026 focuses on enjoying and celebrating their time together. Whether it’s through class projects, Cardboard Confessions, or making a cookbook, students will be leaving with memories that will last a lifetime.
