On September 24, 2025, a shooting at the Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility occurred. This unfortunately left two detainees dead and one wounded after a gunman fired. At 6:28 a.m., 38 police units responded to a call for assistance from the ICE Detention Center, according to ABC.
According to CNN, the shooter had been planning this event for months; a set of notes and his written plans were found at his home. After the planning, he fired indiscriminately at the ICE facility from another rooftop.
The shooter was then found dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to CNN, the current suspect is Joshua Jahn. He appears to have acted alone in this event, driving to a building near the ICE facility and positioning himself on the roof. He was seen preparing for the event at around 3 a.m., just a few hours before the attack.
The event instilled widespread fear among those in the facility, prompting visitors to flee for cover while fearing for their family members in the facility. ICE agents and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives went to assist the injured detainees.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found the suspect’s body and bullets, engraved with the phrase “Anti ICE.” The gun was an 8mm bolt-action rifle, which the suspect obtained legally in August of 2025. FBI Director Kash Patel says there was a “high degree of pre-attack planning.”
Nancy Larson claims that after the suspect’s home investigation, “it’s clear from these notes that he was targeting ICE agents and ICE personnel.” Jahn’s parents testified that he was a loner and was obsessed with Artificial Intelligence. The documents found at Jahn’s house portrayed him as a man with no friends, who was unemployed and would obsessively play computer games. He was not diagnosed with any physical or mental disorders.
According to NBC, the victims of the shooting were Miguel Angel Garcia Hernandez and Norlan Guzman-Fuente, and reports state that Jose Andres Bordones Molina passed away later.
The wife of Garcia Hernandez said that he had a great sense of humor, loved helping people who were struggling, and loved doing good deeds, such as helping people work on their cars. She reports that he had a great relationship with his children, as he would spoil them and was a great father due to their close relationship. His wife has not told their children what has happened to their dad out of fear of their immense devastation. This has made a lasting impact on Garcia Hernandez’s family and loved ones.
“Stories like these make it clear our country is in the middle of a gun crime crisis,” says Gabby Gilford, a former Arizona Congresswoman who is a survivor of a 2011 assassination attempt. The increased prominence of gun violence from both the left and the right has made it clear that current gun measures aren’t sufficient, and some action has to be taken to prevent future tragedies, leaving a lasting, detrimental impact on their families and society.
