Amber Seaphan, a senior at Sam Barlow High School, has been recognized for her outstanding dedication in her Marketing class. Ever since she stepped foot into the class, she approached every project with creativity, focus, and the determination to help the growth of the Marketing Department at Barlow. In Marketing, students learn to understand the needs and wants of customers and the importance of the “4P’s” of Marketing: product, price, place, and promotion.
Before Saephan became a member of the Marketing class, she took Intro to Business, in which she learned how to write professional emails and gained communication skills. During her sophomore year, she joined the Marketing and Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) to learn how to manage a business and find new opportunities in the business industry. Saephan is the oldest chapter officer in DECA, and she hopes to raise funds for DECA so that lower-class students will have the same opportunities she had to participate in the School-Based Enterprise gold certification. Saephan said that having the opportunity to be involved in activities like Marketing and DECA “helped me improve my communication skills and gain more confidence in myself.” Saephan hopes to get more people involved in Marketing.
Anite Lamoureux, the Marketing teacher and DECA adviser, spoke highly of Saephan. Ms. Lamoureux praised Saephan for her many qualities that made her successful in both Marketing and DECA. “She has an appreciation for what it means in terms of really not limiting herself in one area for what teachers wanted her to do.” For Ms. Lamoureux, Saephan stands out from other students because she has an interest in marketing outside of the four walls of the classroom. For example, Ms. Lamoureux mentioned that Saephan participates in summer conferences that relate to business or marketing. “That is a real indication of passion and pursuit for future endeavors as well.” She said. When asked what advice she would give to Saephan as she transitions into the real world, she responded, “I would encourage her to be hungry for learning.” For other students who want to pursue a business career, she said to find your passion and try to commit.
