Barlow Bruins’ Pink Out Week honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month during the week of October 20-24. The Bruins went all out for their pink-out week at their football game, soccer games, and even had teachers go all out with their pink on Friday, October 24th.
On October 24, Barlow varsity football lost 16-10 vs Sandy High School at the Barlow stadium during the pink out football game. Although Barlow’s football team was down, our student section was up. Most of the students in the Bruin student section had pink head to toe, with pink face paint and bright neon pink shirts, shouting chants. Barlow bright pink merch is seen all over the Barlow campus. It’s safe to say the Bruin Pride is outstanding both inside and outside the stadium. A Sandy football player suffered an injury and was taken out of the stadium in an ambulance in the third quarter of the game, delaying the game by 30 minutes. As the game continued, Barlow continued to work their hardest to score but did not succeed. Students say, “It was disappointing, but they tried their best.” Even with Barlow varsity losing the game, the Bruin Pride stayed strong and positive.
The girls’ varsity soccer team eagerly participated in pink-out week. On October 21, the Bruin girls varsity soccer played against Sandy High School varsity soccer at the Bruin stadium for a home conference game, with players supporting pink-out with their outfits.. Barlow and Sandy were tied 0-0, although both teams were very close to scoring multiple times. Meanwhile, in the stadium, the Bruin family pride was dominating against Sandy’s pride. One of the Barlow players described, “I think that we played good, I think it was a hard battle between both teams and ultimately was heading to a draw,” when asked about her thoughts on the game a. This shows the great effort the girls put towards the game and Pink Week.
On Friday, October 18, Barlow was glowing with bright pink merchandise for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in November. We asked Ms. Adina about her thoughts on the pink-out week and if she thinks it positively affects awareness throughout the school, and she replied with, “I think so, I really like that we get to be involved with that, and I wish we could fund for breast cancer research, but it’s still nice to be involved.” Adina advocates for pink-out to continue for the next upcoming years. Even though we are unable to fund breast cancer, we can still see everyone supporting it and raising spirits.. Pink-out week is the most lively it can get all year.
To wrap up all of these highlights, we can unquestionably say Sam Barlow goes all out for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With Barlow students just walking around wearing the pink shirts, or with our athletes, staff, and teachers wearing all pink, we can see our school supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month. Our sports teams also did their best to shine bright out there, wearing pink and supporting Pink Week.
