This year we welcome brand new staff and old staff with new titles. Most are looking forward to being a part of the Bruin community and getting to know everyone in the building.
Alex Pohrman (Special Education Assistant)- Mr. Pohrman is on his third year working in education. He looks forward to being a part of our amazing school. When asked about his hidden talent, he said, “I’m an ace when it comes to frisbee.”
Midge Collins (College and Career center)-Mrs. Collins has worked in the Gresham Barlow school district for 9 years! Prior to those nine years she was a volunteer for 10. This year at Barlow she is so excited to be a part of students after grad journeys and helping kids decide where to go. Collins has a very helpful hidden talent: fitting large items such as hay bales and goats inside her small car.

Jenny Byrne (ELA teacher )-Mrs. Byrne isn’t exactly new to teaching, she has actually worked at Barlow for seven years and has been teaching for thirty years. She is looking forward to interacting with students and watching them fall in love with reading. She is excited to witness and be a part of her student’s journeys. Her hidden talent is making delicious bread.

Wilson Phillips (Math teacher)-Mr. Phillips has spent six years teaching, mainly at the college level. He is looking forward to becoming an essential member in the Bruin community. His hidden talent is his “adequate” chess skills.

Liz Scharman (ELA teacher)-Mrs. Scharman has been working in schools since 2006, teaching English, AVID, and Theatre. Now she is getting her hand into some high school English. She is looking forward to getting to know her students and colleagues. Mrs. Scharman’s hidden talent is writing novels in her freetime.

Courtney Goss (production secretary)-Mrs. Goss has worked at Barlow for 3 years. She has taken on a new title this year and looks forward to interacting with more people and getting to know more of the students and staff members. Her hidden talent is fire dancing.

Scott Jones (High school Success Coach)-It’s Mr. Jones’ 10th year teaching. He has taught in both private and public schools. He looks forward to getting to know the incoming freshman class and help students be as successful as possible. His hidden talent is his love for building legos.

Ryan Leavenworth (Special Education teacher)-It’s Mr. Leavenworth’s 19th year working in education. He enjoys helping students get better at math. HIs hidden talent is his ability to run lots of 5k’s.

Matt Frye (In school suspension Attendant)-Mr. Frye is going onto his third year working in schools. He is looking forward to being apart of the Barlow community and also being able to share the experiences with his family. His crazy hidden talent is that he was once a world class Tetris player.

Kristen Willard (Health assistant)-Ms. Willard has worked in school healthcare for the last eight years. She is looking forward to Barlow as a school but also meeting all the students we have to offer. Her hidden talents include her passion for working out and cooking.

Steven Andreen (Science teacher)-Mr. Andreen coached high school football in California starting in 2008, then pursued teaching in 2020 at David Douglas High School. Now we welcome him to Barlow. Mr. Andreen has been a fan from afar for a while and is excited to be apart of the Bruin family now. He takes pride in his players and looks forward to the next couple months with them this season. Aside from football he enjoys “NOT” fishing. Andreen says he is a very “fish friendly fisherman” though he loves fishing, he never really catches fish.
