A summary of all the talented bruins who have been at work this fall and some words from a few of those athletes.
Girls Soccer:
The Barlow varsity girls’ soccer team is a team that will always keep you on the edge of your seat. They ended the season with 13 wins and four losses, finishing 3rd in the Mt. Hood Conference and ranking 15th in the state. The team won the first round of playoffs at Glencoe. Following this game, they competed against the number one ranked team, Jesuit. Barlow lost in this game, but they didn’t go without a fight. They fought the whole game, and goalkeeper Kassidy Waibel, a Senior at Barlow, had 14 saves during the game.
Sophomore Kylie Asher said, “I’m really proud of the team and how well we did this season in the playoffs.”

Boys Soccer:
Boys Soccer has an overall record of nine wins, six losses, and one tie. The Bruins finished fourth in the Mt. Hood Conference and are ranked 22nd in the state. The team lost 2-1 at Lincoln in the first-round playoff game.
Carson McGinnis, the senior goalkeeper said, ”It was a really good season from start to finish. Everyone played their heart out every game, and I’m very proud of our group this year, especially because we were the first team in over a decade to bring the team into the playoffs.”

Cross Country:
The Barlow cross country team competed at the Mt. Hood Conference district meet on Tuesday, October 29, at Blue Lake Park. The boys’ team finished 5th, and the girls’ team ended 6th in the league. None of the runners qualified for state.
Freshman Sophia Oommen said, “Cross country is very fun to do. Running may be hard, but the experience is worth it.”
Team Captain and senior Stephen Crover said, “Hurts so good, clear as mud?”

Football:
Our 2024 football team missed the playoffs by one spot. Overall, the team ended the season by winning three games and taking six losses. They placed 5th in the Mt. Hood Conference, ranking the team 27th in the state.
Garret Sayles, a sophomore defensive tackler and offensive guard said, “Overall, we had a very fun season. It had its ups and downs, but there is no team I’d rather go through it with. I’ll miss all the seniors who left it all on the field for us. Can’t wait for next year!”

Volleyball:
Varsity girls’ volleyball ended with 17 wins and only six losses overall. They finished in third place in the MHC and ranked 11th in the state. The first round of playoffs was won by Barlow, scoring 3-0 against Beaverton. The second round at South Salem was a loss for the Bruin team.
Addi Knight, a senior middle blocker tells us, “Season was super fun, couldn’t of asked for a better senior year, even though we lost our head coach and many seniors last year we had lots of new girls on the team and a great new coach, and we led a super competitive program!”’

Water Polo Boys
The boys’ water polo team had an overall record of 24-7 and a 6-0 record in Mt. Hood League play, earning first place in the league and ranked third in the state. The team won its first playoff game against Tigard and its quarterfinal game against South Eugene but lost a tough match against Newberg. However, it finished with a win against Tualistin, taking home a third-place trophy.
A junior field player, Powell Jacob, said, “When in doubt give the ball to Levi Riegelmann.”

Water Polo Girls:
The girls’ water polo team earned a 14-18 overall record and a 2-4 record in the Mt. Hood League, ranking sixth in the state. The team beat Mountainside in the state sub-tournament, then lost to South Eugene in the quarterfinals, won against Eugene in the consolation bracket, and finished the season with a win over Tualatin, bringing home the 5th place trophy.
Junior goalkeeper Maria Knifong said, “Being a goalie means you’re the last line of defense in the pool so it can be very difficult. But I love playing and wouldn’t trade my position for any other on the team.”
