On November 24, 2025, Barlow’s Art Department visited Powell Valley Elementary School and created tape murals! This made the staff and students very happy. Many of the murals were decided by the Principal of Powell Valley in collaboration with Mrs. Gibson.
Powell Valley’s Principal had seen our past tape murals thanks to a meeting at Barlow,so she asked Mrs. Gibson to make some for Powell Valley Elementary. The date was set on Monday, November 24, a Monday that very few students would show up on, since it was the week of Thanksgiving. Only 14 students went to make murals, which included Maggie Zielinski, Izzy Hudson, Kaylynn Harvey, Jade Methany, Violet Christiansen, Silas Walker, Neveah Carroll, Iain Munguia, Aidan Xiong, Zoe Taylor, Kinslee Chaney, Ariana Campbell, Jezalyn Bidema, and Lilah Burkholder. During the creation of the tape murals, there would be two-person teams; each team would make one big mural based on a reference that was chosen. There would be eight murals total, each made with a reference. The murals were panther paws, an entire panther, a panther face, salmon, a butterfly, an entire bear, a town, and a Fortnite city. Mrs. Gibson would give everyone a reference paper, and everyone would try to make it look the best it could on the wall.
The murals were made upon request, and they were a fun endeavor, but there are no plans to do these in other schools. Mrs. Gibson said “14ish” rolls of tape were used in this trip, and it only took three to four hours to finish all of the murals. Strolling through the hallways and seeing everyone’s work was amazing. Some teachers and staff complimented the group for making the tape murals for the school. Hopefully, everyone will love to see all of the murals, and every young student will be inspired creatively, seeing all of the murals. Giving them big ideas that one day they can do the same thing, and one day do the same as them.
Iain Munguia, a participant during the mural trip, tells us his experience making and seeing everyone else’s project. While making the tape murals, Iain says, “It was easy if you take your time”, while seeing all the projects, he also says, “they looked cool and creative”. His experience tells us that he had fun and enjoyed his time there.
All of these tape murals are awesome and creative. Each and every mural was made with time and consideration for Powell Valley Elementary. Everyone also had a great time spending time on the trip, making murals, and listening to the music Mrs. Gibson would put on.
