Rob Reiner was famously known for being an American actor, director, filmmaker, and political activist. Along with being a beloved director, actor, and political activist, Reiner was also a devoted father. Reiner adopted his oldest child, Tracy Reiner, then later in life had 3 more children with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner: Jake Reiner, Nick Reiner, and Romy Reiner. Rob Reiner, 78, was pronounced dead at 3:45 pm on Sunday, December 14, with his wife, Michelle Singer Reiner, 70, pronounced dead a minute later at 3:46 pm, according to copies of the Reiners’ death certificates, USA Today obtained. The Reiners were found with “multiple sharp force injuries,” living only a few minutes after their attack. The LAPD stated that the couple was found in the master bedroom of their home.
The Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, was arrested for the murder of his parents on December 14. On December 17, Nick stood in front of a judge and said only three words, “Yes, your honor.” His arraignment on January 72026, if convicted, would sentence him to life in prison, parole, or even the death penalty. Reiner’s Law Defendant Alan Jackson, early on in the arraignment, said, “Nick Reiner is not guilty of murder, print that,” after he had withdrawn from the case because he felt he had no choice. The Reiner’s youngest child, Romy Reiner, lives across the street from her parents and went to check on them around 3 pm on the day of their murder. Sources say Romy fled the home, found a friend, and called the police. The Reiners’ oldest son, Jake Reiner, was named as the informant of the couple’s death. Five days later, the Reiners were cremated. Romy and Jake had spoken out to the public on December 17, according to TMZ and People, stating, “Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day. The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.” Later in their speech, Romy and Jake asked for privacy and respect from the audience. The Reiner’s eldest daughter, Tracey Reiner, 61, whom Rob adopted during his marriage to his past wife, Penny Marshall. Tracey told NBC News that she’s “in shock” about her parents’ deaths. Tracy also told NBC News, “I came from the greatest family ever.”
As for a memorial for filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Jake and Romy Reiner mentioned sharing the memorial service “at a later date”. Rob’s fans had a makeshift memorial set on his Star of Fame plate in Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in California. Fans covered his star of fame with flowers, bouquets, candles, signs, notes, and a wreath of flowers set on a stand.
