On December 19, 2025, famous actor James Ransone, 46, was found dead. James Ransone was best known for his acting in horror movies, especially his most famous “ It: Chapter Two”, “Sinister”, “Sinister 2”, “Generation Kill”, and “The Wire”. Ransone was a father of two children, a son, Jack, and a daughter, Violet, a husband of Jamie McPhee, a son, and many people’s inspiration.
Ransone’s cause of death was confirmed as suicide on his death certificate, January 7th, 2026, according to People magazine. Ransone previously struggled with addiction before he got sober. “I weighed 115 pounds, was about 30 grand in debt and had developed a pretty healthy heroin habit,” Ransone told Malibu Magazine. Ransone openly talked about his experience with addiction, stating how dangerous it really is, and his near-death experience. “One time, I actually did die and got brought back to life. Then I got arrested a few times. The last time I got arrested, I got out of jail and came home and got a couple of bundles of heroin and tried to get high, but it didn’t work anymore. That was the scariest part. Drugs couldn’t silence the volume of noise in my head anymore.
Ransone had been sexually abused by his childhood tutor, Timothy Rualo. For James, this led to a “lifetime of shame and embarrassment” when, at the same time talking about how this played a part in his substance abuse, according to US Magazine.
Ransone’s death was reported to be by hanging himself. James was a husband to Jamie McPhee and father of 2 to Jake Ransone and Violet Ransone.
Jamie, posted on Instagram a heartfelt message for Ransone, saying, “I told you I have loved you 1000 times before, and I know I will love you again. You told me — I need to be more like you, and you need to be more like me — and you were so right,” “Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts — you, Jack, and Violet. We are forever.” Many of Ransone’s friends and co-stars had also posted tributes to him online as well.
A GoFundMe page was set up by Ransone’s friend CamilleGarmendia to help out Jamie, Jack, and Violet after Ransone’s passing. In the GoFundMe page, you can see that James had a nickname, “PJ.” The description of the GoFundMe informs the reasons for the page, stating when Ransone died and who he was to his loved ones. The description states, “On Friday, December 19th, we lost James Ransone—beloved Credit: James Ransone pictured 2019 whom sadly December 19th 2025. passed husband, father, and friend.”

On the GoFundMe page, Jamie commented on how much she sees Ransone’s impact on others wherever she goes, and on all the love and support she’s been getting from fans and friends. She states that her focus is currently on her children, Jack and Violet.
