As junior and senior Bruins’ excitement grew for the dance of the year, Prom, it fell to the juniors in Leadership to plan the perfect night. The theme “Under Lilac Skies” was the ultimate favorite of the Leadership juniors and seniors, lightly inspired by the beauty of Disney’s Tangled, especially the lantern scene. The theme introduced the lilac color, which was a new color palette from Barlow’s previous Proms, adding a new and refreshing touch. The decorations featured lilac elements with candles and flowers, which perfectly matched the Tangled inspiration while still keeping the elegant atmosphere. One of the best-fitting decoration choices Leadership made was to place lilac tulle above the dance floor, perfectly embodying the theme as Bruins literally danced “Under Lilac Skies.”
The venue, Castaway, located in Portland, was the same as last year’s Prom. The big, open room with large windows lining the walls was the perfect fit because it could hold the hundreds of Bruins and their guests who attended, and was also affordable, keeping ticket prices reasonable for attendees. The extra covered outdoor area provided relief from the hot and busy dance floor and housed a free photo op with photo strips to capture the night.
One of the most exciting aspects of Prom is the chance to see friends and peers dressed up in formal clothes. This year, the Bruins did not disappoint with a variety of elegant suits and gowns. The dance floor was the hub of the night, with many dancing and singing along to the songs, surrounded by friends doing the same, creating a fun and exciting atmosphere felt by all in attendance.
As next year’s juniors begin booking next year’s venue and brainstorming theme ideas, they will certainly keep this year’s Prom in mind as a blueprint for success.
