Now that the 2025-2026 school year is coming to an end, Sam Barlow’s current ASB officers will soon finish strong in their positions. They all should be recognized for doing an amazing job this year and representing our school. Next year, we will have new faces that will continue to represent Sam Barlow High School.
Being in the leadership class, taught by April Anderson, is already full of responsibilities in itself: students must present themselves as a role model for the school, and to go through and take on a larger role is not for the weak. There are many positions that people ran for, and I am proud to announce our new ASB officers for this upcoming school year.
First, our new President, Aubrey Heath, ran unopposed for this position. This position is only offered to a soon-to-be senior with significant prior leadership experience and ready to take on a large role in Student Government. This role is multifaceted, requiring the President to oversee every ASB and Class Council officer while serving as the official student representative at community functions. Beyond leading daily leadership classes and organizing retreats, the President is the face of SBHS at all assemblies and the final signatory on legislative forms passed by the Student Council.
Supporting our president is the role of Vice President, which was won by Bailey Armstrong. This role is critical for operational success, as the VP manages site locations and building requests for every event. Furthermore, the Vice President serves as the technical lead, overseeing needs and technology for school activities. By evaluating class projects, the VP ensures that leadership initiatives are continually evolving and improving.
In addition, we have the role of Secretary, which, after voting, Hailey Harrison won. The ASB Secretary is the backbone of school communication. Tasked with maintaining the council and ensuring all leadership materials are organized, the Secretary records minutes for every meeting and manages correspondence with staff and other schools. Their role in determining quorums and updating committee packets ensures that everything runs smoothly.
Not only that, but Kennedy Kirchem won the Treasurer position. Early in September, the Treasurer prepares the year’s projected expenses and sets budgets for all standing committees. By maintaining a weekly spreadsheet and presenting reports at Student Council meetings, they ensure transparency. Perhaps most importantly for the student body, the Treasurer researches revenue-generating ideas and organizes fundraisers to support local charities and community events.
Winning the Sergeant-at-Arms position is Abby Carlson. This holds a unique and vital position that brings the class together. Responsible for tracking attendance and organizing committee progress, this officer also works closely with the City of Gresham to ensure major events—like the bonfire and Winter Formal—comply with fire marshal codes. They are the primary liaison for school safety tasks and oversee the integrity of school elections.
Our Publicity Manager position was fulfilled by Chamonix Aubry. In an era of digital connection, this officer manages the Sam Barlow ASB social media accounts and oversees all written and verbal announcements. From designing professional posters to creating Barlow “superfan” apparel, the Publicity Manager ensures every student knows when and where the action is happening.
To go along with that, our new Spirit Commissioner is Stephen Amadio. This officer presides over the “Super Fan Squad,” organizes lunch-time activities, and determines the themes for dress-up days and spirit competitions. By coordinating with the Publicity Manager, the Spirit Commissioner ensures that student sections at athletic events remain vibrant, loud, and compliant with OSAA rules.
Sophia Oommen, winning Historian for our school, ensures that the legacy of the 2026-2027 year is never forgotten. By maintaining photo and video records of all activities, coordinating movie filming, and keeping a detailed scrapbook of accomplishments, the Historian captures the “Bruin Experience” in real-time.
Last but not least, our Site Council Representatives are Sam Gentry and Piper Topaum. They serve as the vital link between clubs and the student government. By attending Site Council meetings and assisting other officers, they ensure that the diverse interests of the entire student body are represented at the administrative level.
That is all of the positions for ASB. We look forward to next year, when Sam Barlow High School will be represented by these people who won. The 2026-2027 school year will not be one easily forgotten.
