With the final stretch of school rapidly approaching, most seniors have begun to experience what is called “Senioritis.” This is the dread of coming to school at 7 a.m., the major procrastination of turning in work, and the overall lack of motivation to try your best in class. Seniors have been in school for the last 13 years of their lives, and with the end just around the corner, many are eagerly anticipating the relief of no classes or the excitement of moving on to college.
The National Association for College Admission Counseling, or NACAC, states, “Senioritis is easy to catch and hard to get rid of. It can also put your future plans at risk.” With college admissions being sent out and students’ sights set further into the future, grades tend to drop dramatically. With this grade drop, most don’t work to get their scores back up, but with lower grades, you could miss out on scholarship possibilities or even have your college acceptance notice taken away. NACAC explains, “Every year, poor academic performance causes colleges to take back their offers of admission, put students on academic probation, or change financial aid packages.” It’s well known that colleges and universities charge substantial fees to students, and that scholarships and financial aid are crucial to many students. With a poor academic performance towards the end of your high school career, colleges may take away the opportunities that were initially presented to you.
So, as the year is wrapping up, seniors must fight their way through senioritis and finish out their final year at Barlow strong!
