The leaves are changing, the sweater wardrobe is out, and Fall break is right around the corner. Thanksgiving break offers a relaxing opportunity to get away from the daily work and the stressors of school. So, as you give your mind a break, here are ten activities you can do over the week to have fun.
DIY Projects– Create a hand turkey! Grab a sheet of paper and trace the outline of your hand on it. Using your fingers, create the feathers, and with your thumb, make the head. Decorate your turkey and cut it out.
Practice cooking meals– For all you cooks out there, prepare for Thanksgiving by giving some new recipes a try. Practice new recipes or learn to cook traditional ones like green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, or stuffing. Master these new meals and provide them at Thanksgiving dinner for everyone to enjoy!
Make desserts- Speaking of food, make some desserts for Thanksgiving, too! Pies are the most enjoyed dessert on this holiday, and the most liked are apple, pecan, pumpkin, and sweet potato pies. You could also make an apple cobbler or a cheesecake.
Host a Friendsgiving– Invite all your friends and have a special dinner. Everybody could bring a dish and share their cooking with everybody. This is an excellent opportunity to connect with those you care about most over a delicious meal.
Prepping– If you are hosting Thanksgiving this year, create some cute decorations and hang them up around the house. You could also prepare by tidying up, setting up the tables for seating, or stocking the fridge with drinks.
Write a Letter- Whether it’s your parents, aunts or uncles, or even siblings, write a letter to somebody you appreciate and are most thankful for. Include everything they’ve done to make them special to you and show them how much you enjoy their presence.
Decorate– After Thanksgiving, the door to festive Christmas decorating is open. Set up your Christmas tree, put out the decorations, and start sipping your hot cocoa because winter is here and Christmas is only a month away.
Thanksgiving Events — There are many events in Gresham and Portland you can attend for Thanksgiving. There is the “Threshold Thanksgiving Turkey Trot 5K”, A 5K race on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, starting at 11:30 AM. Outdoor Games- Fall in Oregon has very unpredictable weather; however, if the sky isn’t crying, go outside and have fun with your friends. Do a sack race or turkey bowling. See the sky and get some fresh air before the winter cold sets in.
Board Games-If the weather isn’t so nice, play some board games. Popular ones include Monopoly, Life, and Chess.
